About The McLeod River PCN

Established in 2010 through a trilateral agreement between the Alberta Medical Association, Alberta Health, and Alberta Health Services, Primary Care Networks (PCNs) are an extension of a family physician’s services. McLeod River PCN works with local primary care physicians in Whitecourt, Edson, Fox Creek, and Mayerthorpe in the delivery of primary healthcare services. Our team focuses on health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and care of patients who are medically complex or who have a chronic health condition.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Clinical Service Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight clinical team members. The Clinical Services Manager leads the development and implementation aspects of the day-to-day management of the team.

What you will do...
  • Supports resolution of issues within the allied health team
  • Ensures a smooth referral process for physicians and patients
  • Works with the Executive Director to assess, develop and modify service to ensure patient needs are addressed
  • Functions as a clinical resource for the administration and management of care
  • Identifies issues or opportunities that may affect program and service delivery success
  • Ensures policies and procedures are developed, implemented, and updated to address issues and minimize reoccurrence
  • Monitors performance indicators and recommends changes in policies, procedures, and processes
  • Set standards and monitors/evaluates the quality of patient care
  • Evaluates and assesses processes to increase quality, efficiency, and efficacy
  • Supports staff in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives
  • Identifies risks to staff and patients and develops risk management plans
  • Ensures staff are trained in emergency situations such as fire, disaster, etc
  • Investigates and reviews accidents and unusual incidents and provides follow-up, including recommendations for changes to policies and procedures
  • Communicates effectively with physicians and staff to coordinate excellence in patient care
  • Serves as a liaison between physicians and staff
  • Coordinates clinical team schedule
  • Participates in committees/meetings
  • Acts as a patient advocate to ensure patient needs are met
  • Coordinates and leads team meetings to share information and seek staff input
  • Investigates and facilitates resolution of disputes arising from within the Team
  • Interviews, selects, assigns, evaluates, and coaches staff
  • Facilitates and assists in the development of orientation and education manuals
  • Ensures all staff are properly orientated to the Team
  • Ensures continued competency of staff including certifications, skills, knowledge, and techniques
  • Identifies training needs and recommends staff development initiatives
  • Promotes attendance at professional courses and seminars, arranges necessary education, and provides in-servicing
What you need to succeed...
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field
  • Registration/certification as an Allied Health Professional
  • Experience in healthcare management is required
  • 3- 5 years of supervisory experience is required
  • Current CPR certified, current registration in good standing.
  • Experience in establishing protocols for program start-ups, especially developing plans and priorities when workload varies
  • Strong oral, written and analytical skills; self-directed and accountable and a high level of perceptiveness
  • Ability to build a good working relationship with healthcare professionals, clients and other members of the community
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively and be flexible in a very active work environment
  • High levels of integrity and professional behaviour
  • Ability to delegate effectively and provide leadership, advice, and consultation to others
  • Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrates ability to be proactive in completing duties
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple assignments and tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations and deal effectively with those who are in distress
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with employees and patients
  • Ability to maintain accuracy while multi-tasking or working under pressure
  • Ability to collaborate with other multi-disciplinary team members
  • Ability to lead change including quality improvement initiatives
  • Basic budgeting/cost tracking skills required
  • Understanding of EMR software is an asset
  • Computer skills: email, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, data entry, scheduling
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and own a vehicle
